Best cheesesteak in SLC. Original with whiz and add on the horseradish sauce and then some Birch Beer to wash it all down. PERFECT LUNCH.

I've gone here a few times here and it is consistent every time. I've tried the mushroom and the bleu cheesteaks and both were delicious. I loved them. Food is good and the small portiions fill me up. You can choose cheese wiz or provolone. I'd recommend this place.

I came for the first time today for lunch and am writing this as I walk to dinner there on the same day. Unreal! This place is legit. Cheese wiz with garlic spread is heaven with cherry coke on fountain with the best ice around, how could no one have mentioned this place to me sooner?! New fav! Delish damnit!

Delicious. Garlic Steak for the win. 6 inch was plenty. It was about 7 or 8 bucks I think? Service was great. Just downtown, come try their cheesesteak. You won't be disappointed.

I eat here often. The sandwiches have always been really good. The service is fast and the prices are decent.

Whiz Steak ... Garlic Steak ... Philly Blue ... = absolutely fabulous! Friendly customer service, Dr. Pepper, chips, very reasonable. I thought Moochie's was good, this is much better.

DP was great! Best cheesesteak I've ever had!

WOW WOW WOW! Gosh I love this place. SO much! I could eat here 3 times a day (and sometimes I do!) I've been on a mission to try every cheesesteak in Utah while my pregnancy cravings are in full force. But NOTHING compares to DP. The ONLY sandwich to get is the Garlic Steak with WIZ instead of Provolone. You will NOT be disappointed. Just try it! I have two MINOR complaints. I really want fries. A bag of chips just doesnt do it for me. And even though I would pay a million dollars for one during a midnight craving, the prices are pretty high. I recently tried Moochies and while they have some GOOD items, I still WAY prefer the flavor of the Garlic Steak with Wiz! mmm. I could eat one right now! (Can I also add a shout out for the AWESOME crew at South Jordan?? My 3 yr old son has MAJOR food allergies. I never considered letting him eat here but they were SO accommodating and did everything in their power to protect my little boy and make a sandwich safe for him. They are a great bunch of guys.)

I've neglected my review writing, but DP deserves the 5 stars, so I must defy my apathy and start-a-typing. I visited Philly over the summer strictly to judge and compare the authentic Cheesesteaks. Among others, I went to the overly hyped overly touristy, Geno's and Pat's, and yearned for my DP Cheesestake. Many will say the bread is the maker/breaker of the CS and it doesn't get anymore right than at DP. Although some of their specialty ones are nontraditional, I've been unable to find anything that beat out the Traditional and Cherry Pepper CS at DP. Add their fun and straight from the east coast Tasty Cakes and Birch Beer and you may as well set your watch to EST time. If you're in the mood for a delicious, hearty, authentic, CS, DP is the place for you.

After work right next door to this place and walking by it several times. I finally decided to try it out. I am pretty easy going when it comes to steak sandwiches. But I was pleasantly surprised on how good it was. I had the cheese whiz steak, in my opinion the only way to have a steak sandwich. It was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of cheese. People are really friendly and are happy to help with questions. I am sure I will be back again.

Got the garlic cheesesteak. It's just meat, cheese, and veggies on an undercooked garlic (bread) roll. No big deal. Moochie's was way way better.

We love this place. It was recommended to us but we just were never in the mood now we come all the time. I do wish they served french fries though instead of just potato chips.

Trust me, I'm a Philadelphian. This place is authentic as it comes in Utah. Tastycake, Herr's, and Heinz ketchup? You can't really get more Philly than that... Unless of course they could somehow get Amoroso's rolls. Then I'll be REALLY impressed and bump it up to 5 stars ;) The cheesesteak itself is great. Bread is soft, tons of steak, great quality meat, and hearty toppings. They have a number of different specialties and my favorite is the garlic steak (garlic sauce, onions, mushrooms, provolone, and tomotoes). The specialty cheesesteaks may turn off some true Philadelphians, but don't fret, you can always keep it real and order "whiz with" Great bang for you buck! I always get the regular, which is 6 inches and costs about $6. It definitely fills me up, but I know that if I got the 9 inch, I'd eat every last bit of that sandwhich and regret it afterwards. so if you have a big appetite, go for the 9 inch. They also have a punch card so if you go a certain number of times, you get a free cheesesteak! Perfect place for a weekday lunch if you work downtown.

Wow totally shocked. I grew up near Philadelphia where cheesesteak is king. This place comes pretty close in quality and quantity. Mouth watering and delicious. I got the footlong and it filled me up. Only thing I would recommend is that this place use more cheese wiz as a spread. Mine seemed alittle light. However . Had the jalepeno cream spread and it made up for it. I will def get another one when I come back.

This is THE place to go if you feelin' like a good ol' sandwich stuffed with that philly cheese goodness, 100% pure beef, and that warm, oozing feeling of bliss (in moderation) dancing in your belly post-meal. I'm talking about CHEESESTEAKS. I've only ever come here 3 or 4 .. or 14 times? Irrelevant said the elephant. Anywho, Garlic Steak is my fav, followed closely by... wait... nope, nevermind. Garlic Steak is definitely my favorite. For about $8 (not including tax), you can get yourself a fulfilling large sized philly cheesesteak, and spend the rest of your afternoon (or evening) in a drunken state of food coma, while you attempt to work, operate machinery, or settle down in a nice corner and doze off. Will definitely be back for more! Oh, and don't say no to their free sauces that they toss in with the large size. Definitely worth stepping up your food game with those food-cessories!

DP Cheesesteaks stands for "Downtown Philly Cheese Steaks" and is located on 300 South 83 East downtown Salt Lake City. There are 10 different cheese steak options as well as a chicken "cheesesteak" and a few other sandwich options. The menu is simple... sandwich (regular or large), chips, drink. Your order takes about 5 minutes so this is a great option for a lunch break or someone in a rush. My only complaint? They did not have french fries. These sauces (a horse radish and a jalapeno) absolutely made the sandwich 10x better. And getting a punch card was probably a bad idea for my waist line. The hot cherry peppers in this sandwich were amazing. The perfect amount of heat. And the bread was out of this world. I also opted for provolone, but traditional philly fans don't worry, cheese wiz is also an option for each sandwich. Authentic philly cheesesteak? I don't know I will let you decide. All I know is that this was one delicioussss sandwich. Full Review and Pictures Here: runningaragnar.com/2015/…

Gnarly cheese steaks hear! They have em all, garlic, cream cheese, chedda cheese, peppers, pizza steak, all is killer, mix em up if ya like. Medium or large. Wash it all down with imported Birch Beer? Yeah it's good and in the fountain, bread don't go soggy fast either. I've had them cater company party's as well and they do great! Check em out it's a gem that delivers

After reading the reviews I was excited to go. We needed something quick on a Sat night and got there about 50 min before close. Looked like they were closing! Anyhow, I had the hot pepper and my wife had the garlic. The staff was really nice and it came quickly, but it was literally just bread with normal tasting meat. It didn't work well together like a $10 sandwich should... What I mean is that mine had nothing special about the jalapeños, the cheese was a slice of provolone hardly melted, and it tasted dry. Just ingredients, not a good SANDWICH. Hey for 5 bucks it would have been fine but the large was $10! I can think of a dozen better places to go when you only have a few bucks to spend. I would much rather have had Jersey Mikes chipotle cheesesteak. Way better. Skip this place for better options.

I loooove this place! Cherry pepper steak with extra cheese whiz is the best. The staff is always very welcoming and on point. I've never waited longer than 5 or 10 minutes for my made to order sandwich. WARNING: very addictive!

it was a ok. I think I am being programmed by an average vocabulary, how does in conjunction sound? well, I really meant to say that this place is great. It appears to cater to a crowd that would normally sit around like the upper echelon of nouns , smiling and narrating patiently waiting to be naked once again amongst who had wanted to give them a go, but its as average and normal as any diner you may go to. Other than having a scenic distraction that again looks to house many a people, so does the local Golden corral in orem, Ut. so go, try it.

Great food, good prices, fast service. I liked the outdoor tables at this location...at lunchtime it gets crowded inside pretty quick.

DP Cheesesteaks is my go-to spot for DELICIOUS cheesesteaks. Recently, I went to moochies on state street and was a little disappointed with the flavor there (I do still LOVE the jalapeno sauce they have, however). I guess it's cuz I've been spoiled by eating at DP more often.. Bottom line-DP Cheesesteaks is a better place and this is why: -More Variety -Better Flavor -Birch Beer -GOOD potato Chips you've never heard of. Today I got the Cherry Pepper Cheesesteak and topped it off with some horseradish sauce, Frank's Red Hot and the other white sauce with peppers in it... It was delicious to the last bite. The Birch Beer paired very nicely with the flavors of the cheesesteak and the hot sauce potato chips I grabbed. These are the kinds of meals I crave. Keep it comin' DP!! Good Work.

I'm not a cheesesteak expert by any means, but I figure that I can tell whether or not meat with cheese an bread is good or bad. DPs is definitely good. Is it a cheesesteak you'd get in Philly? Who knows? I've never been. But they definitely do something right with their meat and cheese whiz. Also, this place is super cheap, and that usually makes good food even better.

Love this place! I'm kind of addicted to their Hot Pepper Steak!

Well I finally tried DP Cheesesteaks on Friday and I was very disappointed, my sandwich was soggy on the bottom and the wax paper under it was a quarter inch deep of a watery somewhat cheesy mess, and I am assuming that it was the cheese wiz sauce mixed with water. The meat had no flavor at all, no salt no pepper they pulled the meat right out of the bag and threw it on the grill. The peppers were good and hot like I wanted it was the best thing about the sandwich I did like the jalapeno sauce as well that they severed. Cheese Wiz which I think was spread on with a butter knife because it was non-existent had no flavor what so ever and the long wait was ridiculous for 3 sandwiches. As always they could have just had an off day and if I am ever downtown again and very hungry I might just give them another try however I think I will stick with Moochies in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whiz steak. Much better than it sounds and better than other local competitors IMHO. friendly staff and would get 5 stars except parking here during rush hour is pretty difficult but if you're walking here, easily a five star experience. Clean facility too.

I Meaaaaaan............! A way to any man's heart is probably with a good cheesesteak with some good whiz cheese and a nice roll to hold it all in the perfect bite that will fill your soul with happiness and every great feeling in life. At least to a meat-eater man's heart. Went there Monday lunch around 12-1pm. Cool tip: there's a 15 minute parking spot right in front of this place, so if it's a to-go thing, you should try parking there! And know that at least that spot will be free in less than 15 mins (hopefully). The place was pretty packed, but the crew still kept the line on time and dealing with the customers without problems. I ordered the first, original Cheesesteak they had in their menu. Typical and simple with beef, red bell peppers, and whiz cheese. Bought the large one, thinking I could save the other half for dinner. The menu had multiple options of cheesesteaks, even with chicken variations, as well as chips plus and other stuff. Went in and out in less than 10-15 minutes, which in all honesty, is amazing considering how busy they were. 2 Funny facts: 1.- The place was mostly packed with men. Haha, Hilarious! We all love this thing apparently! 2.- I ate both halves in one sitting, and even in pain, I loved every bite, and I still don't know how it disappeared from my hands. :( I'll be back.

I know I'll take a lot of crap for this, but they're better than Moochies! Garlic cheesesteak is my go to along with some of their cherry jalepeno sauce or hot sauce. Yum!

This place is bomb!! You can start to pick up the delicious aroma of this place like a block away and it's not at all misleading. The employees were nice and the food was great (My current favorite is the Cream Cheese Steak)! Can't wait to go back!!

I've worked in the neighborhood for many years. I had been to DP, but it didn't really stand out for me until last year. For my first few experiences, I ordered the peppersteak which is good, but it doesn't compare to Grinders. I switched to the pizza steak with chicken which I stuck with for a while because it's particularly delicious. Recently I've been ordering the mushroom pepper steak which is the one that got DP into my once a week lunch rotation. There are a lot of sandwich shops in the area, but DP has the very best cheesesteaks. They also have coke products so right away they're light years ahead of Great Steak. There are two drawbacks to DP. First, it's a bit pricey. All of the sandwiches are the same price and they come in 6" or 12". Chips and a drink are extra. I usually end up paying around $10 for my 6" combo. They do have a frequent flyer program though. The second drawback is the smell. The circulation in the building is awful and the kitchen is open so the place fills up with smoke/steam. It's impossible to go to DP and not leave wreaking of meat even if you take your order to go. If you like cheesesteak, you have to give DP a try.

4 stars because it is inconsistant, but great. Even on a bad day the best cheesesteak in the state. I am from philly and take my cheesesteaks very seriously. This is very close to the real deal.

  • Anne Marie S.

Not bad. I loved the 80's music. The food was good. I've never had an authentic Philly cheesesteak so I'm not sure how it compares. I did like the vibe of this place. Nice place for lunch.

Great steak sandwich. Its made fresh and hot. Love the sandwich...hate looking for parking especially during lunch. I have had the mushroom peppersteak and the traditional. If you like hot...add the red sauce on the counter in the bottle adds some heat and tastes great.

Well geez, wasn't I being a grump when I wrote my original review! I've returned to DP many, many, times in the last few years, and it has become one of my favorite places for all my philly needs. I love all the options on the menu. Usually, I go for the garlic steak... or, if I am feeling bold and don't have to be anywhere for a few hours, the hot pepper steak! They get slammed during the lunch hour, but are always quick to get the orders out! It appears I am not the only one who loves this place: The other day, I had my to-go order in a DP bag on the elevator in my office building... another gentleman hopped on, and said, "Oooh, I love DP Cheesesteaks! ...What'd you get?" I replied with "The garlic steak", and he closed his eyes, said "Mmm.... that's my favorite".... then proceeded with sexual noises. I know, bro... I know exactly how you feel!

Went for lunch on a Tuesday. Was expecting a long wait as it is right in the downtown district. I was very surprised with how fast the service was even during the lunch hour. Friendly staff and relaxed environment. It could have been less busy than normal because it was so close to a holiday that many people were out of town or they could just be really good at service. The food came less than 2 minutes after I ordered. It was hot, the sauce was perfect and the flavor of the cheesesteak was great in my opinion, but I'm not from Philadelphia.

I went here for lunch on a whim and ordered the garlic steak with a birch beer to drink. I've never been to Philly, so I haven't had one of "THE' cheesesteaks, but I can say that the garlic steak was the best cheesesteak I've ever eaten. Obviously the birch beer was delicious, too. The meat was perfectly juicy, enough to drip just a bit, but not enough to make the bread soggy, which is really important to me. Soggy bread ruins a cheesesteak, not matter how tasty the sandwich started out to be. The garlic steak comes with provolone cheese, which I thought worked really well. The atmosphere of the place is really cool too, with seating by the front window so you can people watch while you eat. I can't wait to go back and try the other variations of cheesesteak they offer.
